Blackout shades are a great option if you’re looking to give any room in your home room-darkening capabilities. A darker house means better sleep, even during the day. Their thick fabric and liners makes it more difficult for daylight, streetlights, and headlights to pierce through them.

What Are Blackout Shades?
Blackout shades are made from close-weaved fabric that doesn't let as much light through as traditional fabrications. Available in a variety of styles, including Roman shades, cellular shades, and roller shades, room-darkening shades block most of that light, upward of 95%. However, even blackout shades can have light enter along the sides of the shade, where it doesn't cover the window.
An option for blocking more light is pairing room-darkening shades with blackout curtains. Drapery should extend out past your window and above it. When they're shut, they block out light that could otherwise enter along the sides, although some may still seep through.
- Hunter Douglas has another innovative solution to this problem: Duette® Cellular Shades with LightLock™. LightLock™ fits into your window and provides a deep U-shaped channel with grooves for the window shades. Blackout is achieved because it blocks all light that could escape through the sides and enter your home.
